Our stuff is the biggest culprit when it comes to our impact on the climate. For example, it takes a lot of energy to extract raw materials for our items. Moreover, the transport of consumer products causes a lot of CO₂ emissions. In short: buy less new stuff, prefer to buy and rent, and borrow or repair as much as possible.

Food and drinks

Eating little or no meat is one of the easiest ways to reduce your carbon footprint. Two thirds of the environmental impact of everything we eat and drink is caused by eating meat. This is mainly due to the production of animal feed: soy plantations ensure deforestation, and large-scale water and pesticide use.

Living

You probably use gas to heat your house and water. And you use a lot of energy to run all your devices. Living determines a large part of your carbon footprint. Fortunately, you can also save a lot of energy here, for example by better insulating your home or by replacing your light bulbs with LED lighting.

Transport

Do you ever go on holiday via airplane? Then there you have a big opportunity to reduce your carbon footprint. Air travel emits many times more CO₂ than travel by car, or even better, the train. A return trip from Bali is equal to four years of driving.
